Miyamoto's comments in a recent interview with Wired indicate that Nintendo is mostly decided that Zelda Wii will indeed require the use of Wii MotionPlus.

"The goal at this point is that we would make Wii MotionPlus required in order to play Zelda," said Miyamoto. He went on to say, "The bigger hurdle for us is not really whether people have a Wii MotionPlus or don't have it, it's whether or not the experience is one where people will think they want to have a Wii Motion Plus in order to experience it."

Miyamoto previously told people to look toward the sword-play and archery in Wii Sports Resort to get an idea of how Wii MotionPlus will work in Zelda. These games have been getting favourable press from people who have gone hands-on with them at E3, so be sure to check out Wii Sports Resort for yourself when the game launches in about a month. Plus, it's an excellent chance to get a Wii MotionPlus peripheral in preparation for Zelda Wii since it is packaged for free with the game.

If MotionPlus doesn't sell/go over well, I can see it not being playable without MotionPlus.

But I don't know why it wouldn't sell or go over well.

If they didn't think the game had enough market penetration by the time Zelda launched, they would probably pack it in with the game.

That makes sense.

Whoops. I meant if MotionPlus didn't have enough market penetration, they would pack it in.

I hate Nintendo, pumping out that crap to play a game that probably won't even live up to its hype.

Nintendo seems to have reached a high point of using gimmicks to try to control the market. Unfortunately, it is working, with Wii Fit and all being at the top of the charts for a while. So they keep talking about expanding the market to fit casual gamers and ignoring the fact that Zelda is a core gamer game and does not need to be expanded for casual gamers to sell well.

I'm hoping they bundle it for free without upping the price of the game, because I'm not too sure if I'd buy the game if I have to pay extra for this thing.

I was just speculating that Nintendo would pack in MotionPlus. They haven't said anything about doing it. I'm sure they will give people the option of buying the game without the peripheral, but it sounds like you will definitely need it to play the game.

Because the ability to enhance the controller in order to reach the way it was envisioned and originally marketed=crap? The Balance Board, Zapper, Vitality Sensor, Wiimote sleeve thing and any other attachments that aren't the Nunchuk or (and this is a personal preference) Classic Controller could be called crap, yes, but I don't know how you can call something that actually increases the accuracy of the controller to the point of, let's say accurately swinging a sword, crap.

Also, Donkey Konga/Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was a crappy gimmick, but I loved every second of it.

It's crap because they should have designed the Wiimote to work properly in the FIRST PLACE, rather than making it an add on just to take more money from people.

It's garbage.

Seriously, they should've just released a new Wiimote instead of adding an attachment. So now it costs $85 for a complete controller (Wiimote=$40, Nunchuk=$20, MotionPlus=$25).

They did it with Majora's Mask and the Expansion Pack.

I'm not too surprised.

I believe that MotionPlus costs $20.

If Nintendo had incorporated MotionPlus into their controllers originally, then they would have ended up costing a lot more than $40. Nintendo said that was the reason they didn't do it, that it was just too expensive at the time.

If Nintendo just releases a new MotionPlus enhanced Wiimote, then it's not going to help anyone who already owns four controllers. Maybe they'll do it in the future, but I'm happy to just buy games with MotionPlus packed-in, rather than paying something like $50 for a new MotionPlus Wiimote.

Well I think it would be a good idea to release both a MotionPlus Wiimote AND a MotionPlus attachment, with the Wiimote+ costing less than the Wiimote and MotionPlus together.

I don't see why they don't just do this.

They probably will after everyone has already bought MotionPlus. Seems like the kind of thing Nintendo would do.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if it would be incompatible with pre-motionplus games. I don't know anything about the data transfer protocol used, but plausibly the presence of a strange attachment could cause problems for games that weren't written with it in mind.

Then again, it would also be a pain to have to keep taking the attachment out to play one of these games, so I doubt they'll let that be the case.

I read/heard on IGN that the non-MotionPlus games work fine with the attachment on. It doesn't add anything to the experience, it just works as if it wasn't there.
