Do we have any other fans of this series here?

By logic and common sense, he should kill himself.

Death Note is an anime I actually watched because a friend nagged me to see it. I LOVED it until the last part of the final episode. Killing Light Yagami was awful because the shinigami didn't CARE about anything and they needed someone like Light that cared about justice to keep the world decent. Taking him out was basically saying that the world should be stupid and chaotic.

What a naive viewpoint to have of Light Yagami's character.

Although, it does make me laugh because you remind me of a boy I once knew...

Well he obviously believed he was just, so he couldn't kill himself.

The weird thing about Deathnote for me was that normally I would be appalled by a character like him, but even as I watched him do stuff I would WTF at I couldn't help but root for him.

Yes, Deathnote was very interesting. It was a murder mystery story in reverse. It was so strange you had to root for Light, the bad guy.

That being said, D's my favorite character.

Yes, but not according to actual logic and common sense.

I think while logic is shared between most people, there are just enough oddballs to make it subjective. Everyone alters logic to work to there advantage sometimes.

There's a little bit of subjectivity to everything. This is obvious and undeniable. But the majority is the common rule.

1. He has an urge to kill that he can't ignore. He uses it to kill people who kill people who don't deserve it. He saves lives by doing this.

2. I didn't ponder a lot on it because I'm not a wap. Please elaborate on what makes my view so ignorant. He wanted a better world by making criminals afraid to act. The shinigami didn't care.

as for the last bit, I'm happy for ya.

Well, it is actually true that the Shinigami don't care. They need to kill or die, and they can see the lifespan of others. Although thinking on this point, I wonder why Ryuk killed him off anyway, since I doubt his lifespan was very long by that point, and a shinigami only gets the difference between the original date of death and the actual date of death added to their lives, so it's a bit odd that Ryuk killed him then and there.

I never saw the animu though, and I haven't finished the wenga, so I don't know if my understanding of the ending is at all accurate.

What I don't get is, if everyone's life is already predetermined ( By the date on people Shinigami can see ) was Light then destined by fate to die by a gunshot wound? ( I know Ryuk killed him, but it didn't seem like he had much time left anyway ) And if not, was he going to die because he altered the time stream? ( Killing people before their time which altered reality )

Also, my friends and I always rooted for L, we hated light. >_>

Holy balls, that was the only flashback joke I've ever seen that doesn't make me want to punch Seth Green in the face.

He should hire on "Gil, Yuji & Razlo" as the new lead writers.

Or not, cuz the show still sucks.

Be aware that this is going to be long, but you asked...

The basic point is that no lone man should play God.

You do realize that Light was also killing innocents? Some people were merely accused, and there are always those who are falsely convicted. None of them had a trial.

It's true that the legal system is flawed, a fact which Light Yagami knew very well. It's also a fact I completely agree with. However, in the eyes of the majority, this is the best system we've achieved thus far.

(On another note, personally, I lean toward a pure egoist form of individualist anarchism as being the only "establishment" that would support fairness based on the Id being no longer suppressed, ruthlessness as the authority and the illusion of society being dispelled. Survival of the fittest, essentially. But, because of my belief in the Judeo-Christian God in the form of the Trinity, I have to support the legal system as being the fairest that we can achieve that is also in conference with my religious beliefs.)

Light was not justice, but nor was L, in my opinion.

Justice is not one man, especially so if that one man is playing God on a massive scale.

It was obvious that Light's actions were evil, influenced by the Death Note's power and also proven by Light's radical change once he lost the Death Note and all his coinciding memories.

You can't deny that he acted like a madman, regardless of his intelligence, can you?

When you put your faith in a madman, you might as well say you believe that terrorism is the right way to achieve justice and peace in the world, because that's exactly what Light Yagami was - a terrorist.

Apparently, you would like to live in a world stricken with fear of a man who plays God and murders those who are simply accused of a crime with no fair trial. You apparently would like to kowtow to a terrorist.

The only occasions of murder that I could ever support would be murder in self-defense, or the death penalty, the latter of which is something I'm rather iffy on.

I certainly wouldn't put my faith in a psychotic, egotistical high school boy who has little to no experience in the real world, believes that what he is doing is a game and has by chance obtained ungodly power that has obviously distorted his mind.

But if that's your Utopia, I suppose to each his own.

By the way, you don't have be a wap to use your brain. Or is it just too hard for you? :P

I basically watched it, rooted for Light to win and they threw that out at the last minute. The world goes back to being chaotic and full of Yakuza style crap and that sucks to me. Sure, absolute power corrupts absolutely, but he kept things a lot more interesting. With a Death Note in hand, I'd likely do things quite similarly to him.

I'm not one to think too much on things that don't matter much to me. No shrug emoticon? That sucks. lol
